Program Details
The four month Lighting Technical Director Certificate at Lost Boys | School of Visual Effects is an accelerated and highly specialized program preparing the students for the trade of Lighting for animation, television and feature film quality visual effects productions.
In a studio environment, students complete a project-based curriculum modeled after real-world examples. The program is designed to build a portfolio demonstrating both animated and photo real lighting skill.

- Katana Basics
- Lighting Theory
- Composition Theory
- Compositing for Lighters
- Understanding Renderers
Semester two:
- Rendering techniques
- The Lighting Process - VFX for Live action movies
- The Lighting Process - Fully Animated movies
- Lighting Projects
- Industry Studies
- Career Prep
Admission Requirements:
- Equivalent Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) score of 6
- Canadian Academic English Language assessment (CAEL): overall score of 60
- TOEFL: 75 internet-based (iBT), 210 computer-based (CBT), or 520 paper-based (PBT)
- IELTS (academic) :overall band score of 6, with a minimum of 5.5 in each section
- PTE Academic: minimum overall score of 55 , and a minimum of 50 in speaking and listening
- TOEIC: 700
- or proof of completion of a secondary school or post-secondary education program in English, in Canada or abroad such as a transcript, diploma, certificate or degree from a post-secondary school
