About ​Hair Stylist


​Theoretical knowledge and practical training are covered in such areas as client relations, men's and ladies hair cutting, permanent waving, shaving, hair colouring, hair and scalp treatments, facials and manicures, and disorders of the scalp and skin. Salon management, bookkeeping, reception and desk functions, and business services are also an integral part of this program. Upon successful completion of the program, students receive work-based hours of training credit towards an apprenticeship and are eligible to write the ITA exam. Students who successfully complete both the full-time Hairstylist program and full-time Skin & Body Therapy program are eligible to receive a Cosmetology Diploma at VCC, the only public institution in Metro Vancouver offering Cosmetology programs.

Courses


The program is divided into three levels. The first two levels are designed to cover all core aspects of the industry on a progressive scale, demanding an increase in competence at each level. The final level is specifically designed for the students to complete their chosen course of study.

Classes are generally held three days a week, either from Monday to Wednesday, or from Thursday to Saturday, depending on availability. Class times are 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for two days per week, and 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. for one day per week. Class times are subject to change.

Admission Requirements:


Grade 10 completion and 18 years of age, or high school graduation

English proficiency requirement:
  • English 10 with a C or higher, or
  • IELTS 4.5 (no band less than 4.0), or
  • TOEFL 54, or
  • Canadian Language Benchmark Placement Test: Listening 7, Speaking 6, Reading 6, Writing 4
